Docs on purpose and usage of this repo?

The current readme explains how to run it, but not what it is. What belongs here? What belongs in knode.github.io?

I would go as far to ask why is this a separate repo from knode.github.io.
This feels like un-needed complexity. I would like to better understand the reasoning for this choice.
